After sweeping both the Super Late Model and Open Wheel Modified features at DMS on Friday night, Shawn Beasley came to Hammerdown Speedway with A clean sweep on his mind. The Raeford,N.C. driver had a chance at the 1,000.00 bonus if he could notch a win in the SLM race on Saturday night.
In qualifying for the 30 lap Late Model event, Zack Cox shocked the crowd as he put the Cox Performance of Lumberton team on the pole with Beasley along side, As the green flew, Cox dove hard into turn one and outdueled Beasley down the back to lead the first lap. Beasley meanwhile bidded his time following the tire tracks of the polesitter until lap 5 when the Beasley"s Body Shop Rocket sailed to the inside and took the top spot for good. Cox also had his hands full as the Candyman, Derrick Francis was all over the back of Cox the remaining laps. Francis did all he could to pass Cox but it wasn't enough on this night so the Tart Bothers/ Lee Furniture Team settled for a third place finish. Ray encountered some scary moments as the checkers neared as the Butch Hill Motorsports Entry was losing grip over the last two laps and made for an exciting finish as Cameron Norris 4th was charging hard but came up just short at the stripe. " We could'nt have made two more laps" commented Ray in victory lane. " not sure what it was but i felt Cameron coming hard" Next week the Super Streets roll with 1,200.00 to win feature at HDS. Ray will once again roll into DMS next Friday with a chance at a 300.00 bonus if he can notch the win.
