Isles Jr. takes SS loot to Littleton
Posted on 08/16/08
Buddy Isles,Jr had a whale of a charge through the field on Friday night at FMS only to come up short, so redemption,a better starting position and 1200 reasons made Saturday night's race at Hammerdown Speedway more important.
In qualifying for the double purse event for the Super Street, Hugh Ray put the #5 on the pole just edging out the 11jr of Isles. At the drop of the green Ray and Isles battled hard to lead that important first lap with Ray withstanding the early charge from Isles. Several cautions plaqued the early and mid portions of this battle with several drivers geting tangled up in various wrecks. But that didnt change anything up front with Ray and Isles putting on a clinic for the top spot inthe season's biggest race for the Super Streets. On lap 9, the Littleton, N.C. made an inside move that was set up to perfection off turn 4 only to have it nulified by a spin in turn two. As the 10 to go siganal was given, both drivers swapted the lead back and forth as Isles was able to notch the win tonight. " I'd like to thank the Lord, my dad, and HDS for putting on this big show for us " Commented Isles. " Hugh always drives like a veteran and i knew it would be fun with him there at the end, i hope the fans enjoyed it as much as me and him did" As Isles entered victory lane, the 11jr was bellowing oil smoke, " I was losing oil pressure those last 5 laps, didn't know if we would make it, we've got some homework to do this week" Cameron Norris 3rd came home third, great run for Fayetteville's Paul Scyferth coming in 4th and Shallote native Joey Babson in is first start at Hds, rounded out the top 5.
For the second consecutive week, the Super Late Model polesitter was the Cox Performance entry of Lumberton's Zach Cox. Cox was hoping that this week was a little different as Shawn Beasley started along side. At the drop of the green, it appeared that this week's outcome would be alot different as Cox took a strangle hold on the top spot and held off Beasley's mounted attacks. Only one caution waived over the field, therefore demanding that Cox and Beasley would have to slice and dice through lapped traffic during the running of this feature. Cox was superb in his manurevering of the traffic, often setting up two cars at a time to hold the top spot. Beasley followed the 12 car's every move but was unable to make the pass. " Man this feels good with all the bad luck we've been having the last two months" said Cox. " I'd like to thank all my sponsors and my crew for sticking with me through this slump, they are the best" Beasley rolled home second, Smithfield, Virginia's Brent Robinson came home third in his greatly appreciated debut at Hds, Derek Francis was 4th and Nichols S.C. native Michael Marlowe posted a top 5 fish in his first start.
In the young Guns feature, lady driver Stephanie Clew wowed the crowd with her first win at Hds besting the other 9 boys to pick up the in. Last week's winner Dustin Parker ran second, points leader Austin Beasley was third, Jordan Tyndall was 4th, and Brandon Bond rounded out the top 5. Open wheel action saw Mike Beasley hold off Jeffrey Tyndall for the win, Benji Thompson was third, Richard Clew and Crystal Carter were 4th and 5th.
In the winge sprint classes, the 270 sprint winner was again, Micael Weeks with carlea Jordan second and Richard Jordan third. The fans at Hds were given a surprise in last night's 600 sprint class race. The drivers all took the wings off their cars and went topless for the feature which changed the whole dynamics of the race. Michael Weeks started in the rear of the race and charged through the field for the win. Tonights U-car winner was Larry Mcguire,Stephanie Clew was second, A.J. Huffman was third Walt Bond 4th and Abe Woodard 5th.
Next week action resumes at the Mighty Bull Ring, August 23rd, with all divisions in action. Thanks to all the fans who support Hammerdown Speedway, look forward to seeing everyone next saturday night for another trip around the high banks of the Mighty Bull Ring!
